Read it like this: the cell value ÷ the column heading = the row heading.

How to Read the Division Chart

This division chart works differently from a multiplication chart:

  1. Find the dividend (number to divide) in a cell
  2. Look at the column header - that's the divisor
  3. Look at the row header - that's the quotient (answer)

Example: Find 24 ÷ 4
Locate 24 in the column under 4. The row header shows 6.
So 24 ÷ 4 = 6

Division Tips

  • Division is the inverse of multiplication. If 6 × 4 = 24, then 24 ÷ 4 = 6.
  • Knowing your times tables makes division much easier!
  • Any number divided by 1 equals itself. Any number divided by itself equals 1.
  • You cannot divide by zero.
